Museum Host
Summary
Under general supervision of the Executive Director, the Museum Host position performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to: Meeting and greeting visitors, answering the phone, various customer service tasks such as, gift shop sales, leading adult and student tour groups, and educating others on various types of local history.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides general visitors services including operation of a cash register.
- Conducts individuals or groups with tours of the museum when necessary.
- Assists volunteers, researchers, students and other visitors in the museum setting.
- Helps maintain the museum in a clean and organizing fashion.
- Assist with processing museum memberships and donations.
- Provides customer service.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Effective written and verbal communications.
- Ability to work well with co-workers and volunteers.
- Upbeat, sociable; ability to converse comfortably with visitors.
- Knowledge of general office procedures including basic use of computer software.
- Capable of participating in occasional software training.
Required Education, training, and Experience
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one-year customer service experience.
Preferred Education, training, and Experience
- Experience with or education in Museum Studies, History, or Art History.
Work Environment
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing, lifting and carrying may be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Must be able to work in an office environment that is environmentally controlled. The employee must possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry, execute arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment. The position is frequently required to sit is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop bend, reach, stand, grasp, reach, grasp talk, hear, see, and lift up to 40 pounds
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a Non-Exempt position; days and hours of work are Saturday 10:00 – 5:00.
