Maintenance Technician II (closes May 10, 2024)

Summary: 

Under general supervision of the Maintenance direct report, the Maintenance Technician II maintains all County owned or leased facilities and property including, but not limited to complex mechanical systems, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, building and remodeling. Critical thinking and problem solving are essential to this position; must have the ability to make decisions independently and in accordance with established codes, policies and procedures. This position will provide responsive, high-quality service to County Departments. Perform related duties as required.

 Essential Job Functions:                       

  • Prepare and present information to the County Maintenance direct report.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality service to other County Departments.
  • Work efficiently with independent contractors working for the Maintenance Department
  • Prioritize, and execute repairs and services relating to assigned facilities.
  • Plan, prioritize, and participate in the work for facility maintenance.
  • Develop goals and objectives, monitor work activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and manage supplies and equipment; order supplies and tools as directed by Maintenance direct report.
  • Train or coordinate training in facility maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment.
  • Develop and organize preventive maintenance and safety inspections programs for all facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate projects, remodels, and other special projects.
  • Assist the Maintenance direct report with the preparation of various contracts, request for proposals, and reports.

Competencies - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of operations, services and activities of a building maintenance, repair, and construction program.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, terminology, equipment and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of building structures and systems including those used in rough and finish carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, mechanical, and painting.
  • Knowledge of principles of budget preparation and administration.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials used in facility maintenance activities.
  • Ability to effectively manage construction and projects.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of safety management.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to organize, implement and direct facility maintenance operations and activities.
  • Perform the most complex maintenance duties and operate related equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Three years increasingly responsible facility maintenance experience.
  • Ability to receive industry related certifications as required.
  • Intermediate technology skills.
  • Possession of current valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fives years increasingly responsible facility maintenance experience including II experience.
  • Advanced technology skills.

Safety Sensitive Position:

  • Pre-employment drug test required.
